Store Update

Hey, folks, this is Marco Argenti from the Ovi Store team. It has been an exciting first 24 hours here in the shop!. We are super excited to share that we have people who have registered for the Ovi Store from 131 countries around the globe. People from Oman to Beijing, Finland to Fiji, Palo Alto to Panama City, have been registering, downloading and rating content.

We have also heard back from many of you in blogs and emails. We really appreciate all of the feedback that has been coming in and we want you to know that we have already incorporated some of your suggestions into improvements we are making to the Ovi Store today. So, in the first day since going live, let me tell you what we have done to make the Ovi Store experience even better:

  • We have now added an auto detection feature to store.ovi.mobi, so compatible Series 60 devices will immediately be alerted that a downloadable client is available for their device and is a click away.
  • For compatible Series 40 devices the client is downloadable through the Download! folder, as previously mentioned for all devices .
  • We have also increased the number of Ovi Store compatible devices 20% to over 60.
  • As mentioned in our earlier blog post, we have added additional server capacity that has balanced the traffic and created a faster and more consistent experience.

We hope you continue to enjoy the new service and continue your conversation in the comments with us!

Marco

I’d appreciate it if you made applications available to everyone. In Germany I can’t download several apps that the store offers in the UK for example (see AP news widget, Qik, Fring). There’s no good reason for this really and I hope you’ll fix it. Furthermore I hope more quality content gets uploaded as time goes by because what’s available now won’t cut it. You got a long way to go to make the store actually work. Good luck!

Hi Marco, Where did my response go?

Hi Marco, I will retype what my last comment was about in case it got deleted by accident.

Basically, I was saying that I’m aware of Ovi Store client being available for the Elisa network here in Finland, where the device can obtain the client in the “Download!” application, however, my network, DNA, still cannot access the Ovi Store Client in “Download!”, and when I point a few of my Nokia handsets to the store.ovi.mobi, there is no auto phone model detect established, therefore no option to download the Ovi Store client like you claim. Will this be rectified soon? I will copy this response to notepad in case it disappears again.

Thanks in advance, and keep up the good work.

    Micky

    Hi Marco,

in https://store.ovi.com/login it would be nice have a box where you can tick the “Keep me signed-in” box like in http://www.ovi.com/services/signin

thanks for this really exciting stuff!

On my N96 when I went to the mobile site there was a link on the home pace to the client.
For some reaso Ovi store still has not appeared in my down load folder.

    1. Any time I visit Ovi Store in Firefox, I have to sign in.
Can u remember the info in cookies that I won’t need to enter my login and password every time I visit Store.
    2. The second remark is about links to Ovi Store (and also to Ovi Mail) from Ovi Services (http://www.ovi.com/services/welcome?fromSamlLogin=true) page. They are absent. But all these links are present on Ovi Store page. This is a bug.
    3. Also I can’t understand how to pay for paid applications. I’m from Russia.
Terms (http://store.ovi.com/legal/terms) explain nothing. Will money be taken from my mobile provider account and how is it organized?

Thnx for Ovi Store anyway. I hope it will become a useful place for either developers and customers.

Hi, Kudos to all of you guys, I really appreciate all the work going into the Ovi store, its amazing. I kunderstand you guys are worjing hard to make the Ovi store a better experience, but I just want to bring your attention to the lack of contents on Ovi store. I just want to know if the apps available now are all the apps submitted prior to the launch of Ovi store, or are they just a small percentage of the overall amount of apps submitted. If the later is the case, how long would we have to wait to see the whole catalog of apps. Thanks

hi, will you publish some ballpark number for this 15x times traffic? It would help a lot in Ovi Store PR, if you would say that it has been struggling under 100000 users (and not 1000).

Also, the nice video of the world lighting up in green would also properly visualize your enormous task – and would turn around the bad press possibly. :-)

    Thanks for the update, Marco.

It was an intelligent move to launch the Ovi Store BEFORE the N97 release so to tweak all the features of the new portal as the new phone arrives.

    Hello gentlement,

I just purchased a N95 8gig last month in anticipation of the AVI store and all the exciting things I had heard were on the horizon.

While I don’t regret purchasing the amazing device, I am completely amazed at the train wreck that the OVI site is. It is virtually impossible to log on… of the 30 or so times I’ve tried today, it times out.

And the selection of aps is… not even close to the hype! I hate being critical, but knowing what you’re up against, it’s begining to look like Nokia may have dropped the ball.

  13. 13 Renegade Fanboy

I cannot find a proper contact form, so I’ll just shoot my suggestions here:
    - could you please publish some statistics about user amount on the opening day?
    - How many users have tried the Ovi Store already?
    - When did Ovi Store pass the 1 million downloads?
    - How many Nokia accounts are registered? (I’m thinking a counter refreshed daily, which Nokia fanboys can obsess about every day.)

I really would like to see Nokia/Ovi team join the 21st century in PR.

why it is not yet available in middle east countries??????? and when will it be available

    hi
sry but i would like to know if the n81 8gb is compatible with ovi store? i do not have it in Download and when i try to enter store.ovi.mobi from skyfire on my n81 8gb it tells me the device is not supported (the default nokia web browser tells me unknown response when i try to enter the site and the page remains blank).
why isnt the ovi store application available on the pc site store.ovi.com for download?

  16. 16 sheridan01

    Hi Marco

That’s all good to hear. Can you sort out the payment screen too so that when you enter a credit card its automatically set to number mode and not alpha mode. Not a big issue but its annoying.

How about adding the information to applications to show which type they are, e.g. java app, sisx or widget. I’m seeing people bying games not knowing that its a java game, and platform really affects the purchase decision at least for me (havent yet seen a decent java game graphicwise)

  18. 18 Nemoi

thanks for the update and keep on working! See a lot of promise in ovi store.

A few quirks I had though:
    - in English I get about 900 items for my e51, in German they are reduced to 742. But I wouldn’t mind using english apps. Could you make that customizable or display all apps for all languages?
    - several items that were there on the first day have disappeared. Where to?
    - Why are Nokia’s own apps (Maps, Sportstracker, Wellness Diary, Internet Radio etc.) not on ovi store?

  19. 19 Micky

Hi Marco, Still unable to get the Ovi Store client on my N95-1, or N82, both do not show it in download, and both do not get the option to download the client when I visit either store.ovi.com or store.ovi.mobi

Im in Finland, on the DNA network.

I have heard Elisa can get the Ovi Store here, but DNA customers can not.

I’m a faithful Nokia fan for years, but just have to rant here and hopefully someone will pick it up:

    1. Tell me what I’m paying for! I use a Nokia 5800 and purchased a productivity app only to find that it was a crappy widget. I then went to buy a game and found that it only runs on less than half of my screen because it was not an optimized Java version – but I didn’t know before I bought the app! Tell me if I’m buying a Symbian, Java or Flash app! And tell me if it is optimized PLEASE!

    2. I purchased EyeCall and the download failed and now I’ve been asked to buy it again. This my same experience with the Nokia Music Service as well. I buy tracks that won’t play on my phone because of license key failures and now I’m asked to buy the same track again!

    3. Sort out your customer care! I can’t find anywhere to log the issues I’m having with any of my purchases. :(

    4. Update your catalogue! Everyday I go back to Ovi Store and see the same content over and over and over again. It’s dull and I doesn’t make me want to shop anymore!

    5. Give instructions to download! I bought a Flash game and tried to run it off my memory card but my phone says “not enough memory to run this application”. :( So I redownloaded it and installed it on to my internal memory and then it works. But I had to guess all this! :(

    6. Is anyone giving guidance to developers how much to charge? Why is stuff free on the net and has to be paid for on Ovi Store. :( And who wants to pay EUR3 for a video clip they can just watch on YouTube? Do you even understand the business about what customers want?!

I’m very very disappointed with Nokia. You guys just DESTROYED years of brand building with me. I’m switching to an iPhone.
    :(

Hi there, I have an important question that maybe you can answer: How can you download again your purchased applications from OVI Store if for some reason you need to reinstall them in your phone? (like when you reset your phone).

    Thanks for your help.

what’s wrong with the store website’s search? please fix ASAP. at the moment the facebook app doesn’t show up in search: http://store.ovi.com/search?q=facebook

what other apps are hidden from the search results page and why? can developers trust you provide this basic visibility to the applications they develop at their own risk?

  23. 23 Olivier

Hi, Ovi store working fine over here but why does it keep suggesting things that I’ve already purchased ?

A suggestion, there should be a stricly chronological “what’s new” section showing the new apps (excluding media and other ringtones). Seeing the same old “recommended” get old very quickly.

  24. 24 Justin

Hi have been trying to purchase some games on the Ovi Store and it allows me to fill in my credit card number and such but after that it says: “We’re experiencing problems with the payment service”.

This seems to be an issue that is affecting other people too: http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?s=9caac8fc7308826356ec7c5fdbb5e5a3&t=169572&page=1

I hope the team can fix it up real quick. Thanks

I don’t have Widsets anymore. It was bought and transformed by Nokia. That souldn’t be a problem, but my Nokia N95 doesn’t like OVI. In fact it’s the other way around – it reads “DEVICE INCOMPATIBLE” if I try to load Ovi Store in my Nokia N95 browser.

I feel shame for you guys. Widsets were such a great service. Just shame on you.
