Hi- I’m Kalle Ojala. I head up Product Management for Ovi Desktop Products.
For the last few years we have worked on the development of Nokia Ovi Suite, which helps people update their Nokia phone firmware, use Ovi services, sync contacts, calendar and to-do lists with their PC applications, transfer photos and videos from their Nokia phones to and from their PCs for storage and organization, and backup their phone data to their PC. Today I’m thrilled to share with you the beta for Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0.
Unlike most software updates, which deliver loads of new features, the philosophy behind Ovi Suite is to pare down the features to the essentials that our consumers have told us they want. We gained lots of amazing insights from our consumer research and we’ll continue to incorporate your requests in our development efforts.
I also want to take you behind the scenes for a moment and share some insight into our development process:
Our development team is comprised of a mix of veteran desktop developers and newcomers from the Internet generation. The team debated the merits of the waterfall and agile application development methods – and I’m thrilled to announce that agile development emerged as the victor. It’s been really interesting to see how different “minds” work together: sometimes we’re in perfect harmony and other times it feels like we’re grappling with the basics to understand each others’ points of view. But hey, this has been an unforgettable journey that we all feel really passionate about. At the end of the day, the results speak for themselves and we hope you’ll find that Ovi Suite exceeds your expectations.
So, what’s next? Since Ovi Suite was developed with Nokia’s Qt software, it’s “potentially almost foreseeable” that other versions will be forthcoming, but don’t hold your breath quite yet.
Nokia Ovi Suite supports over 100 different Nokia S60 and Series 40 devices, with more being added all the time. Ovi Suite will eventually replace Nokia PC Suite and will be the only PC application from Nokia.
So download it, try out and give us your feedback. Check it out at Nokia Beta Labs http://betalabs.nokia.com/ovisuite.
Cheers
Kalle

Link is broken!
Is it just me, or is the link to the Ovi Suite 2.0 Beta broken?
i was excited to hear about it, but not as much after i gave it a try… well, i understand its a beta…
a bug i noticed: i synced my contacts and it worked well. however, after i uploaded some pics to my contacts on the ovi suite, and trying syncing again to have them on my mobile, it didnt send the new data to t phone.
i didnt try syncing music and photos. its a good start for a great idea… good job.
Thank you! fixed.

@mjbr
sorry to hear that you had some problems. can you share a bit details of your environment, e.g. what phone you were using?
Very nice and streamlined. The Qt toolkit does miracles! To me, Nokia made one of the most strategic moves in the industry to buy out Trolltech!
I’m expecting for more nice GUI-ed applications to come out and ported to all major platforms as soon as possible. And please, let my calendar be synchronized with Mozilla Thunderbird/Lightning…
Where is Bloomberg in OVI? They already have a software for S60!

Anybody here who encountered an error problem with Ovi Suite 2.0?
Got one when I first install this suite in my PC. I have a NSeries PC Suite installed prior to this one.
This is how I made it worked, Erase every Nokia Program in my PC then run the PC Suite Cleaner, then install this one. I just wish it was mentioned in the procedure because it took me three days to figure it out.
as a mac user, am i ever going to be able to have a nokia-suite available for my platform?
is this at least on the cards?
OVI Store is not available in my country (Iran). Nokia has a HQ in Tehran and millions of users in this country, but we are not counted as Nokia users by OVI team!
The government of Iran blocked lots of websites, and some services like Google Earth, Google Mobile and Nokia OVI Store are blocked from outside Iran!
What do we (Iranian people) have done wrong that not the government nore the foreign companies look at us as humans?
I’ve tried and tried to get an application downloaded to my phone, but Ovi keeps taking me back to the login screen. I’m happy to pay for the application, but don’t wish to spend hours figuring how this “store” works and I especially don’t wish to pay for data download just to be returned to the same screen without result! I won’t be coming back.

Why the h*** doesn’t the ovi store offer the credit card option….its stupidy…i cannot find the option to buy with credit card anywhere either on the website of the e71…
I have the same question as matt, will there be a mac version?
Ovi Suite 2.0 seems promising. However, I returned back to 1.0 when I realised that there is no way to install an application, other than transfer it to the phone and install it through its file browser. Easy application installation should be #1 priority for your future releases.
I’d like to add my voice to the requests for a Mac version. It’s hard to be a Nokia fan in the US, and the lack of a Mac tool for updates etc. makes showing off difficult!
Being a devoted mac AND Nokia user I’d like to see them both work it out, do some good syncing.. More people than ever are using Apple computers, so Nokia would eventually have to figure out a way to make them click..
Also, have you seen the iPhone applications lately? (Tap & Track, Grocery IQ, Chef…etc) Nokia better keep up.. else it’s too easy for us mac users to pick an iPhone..
I am a happy brazilian user of Nokia products. Now I have a 5800 XpressMusic and download a lot of software for my symbian device. However all the software I’ve downloaded until now was from 3rd party websites instead the promising Ovi Store. I saw in some reviews of the store that it have thousands of applications and I can see only a couple of them in my phone. So, please remember your huge market here in Brazil and make these fantastic stuff available for us. Thanks in advance.
Hi Kalle, Its nice to see the OVI Suite and now its updated version. Congrats for that. Recently i got N97 and then know about OVI Suite. Well i have few concerns and suggestions for OVI Suites.Well first is that it requires huge RAM. I think since it is not using any big processing then why it requires huge ram always. I agreed during file transfer or format conversion it need CPU as well as ram but rest of the time it requires lot of ram which makes it unstable and slow. Another is that if i want to download any application then it always send message to my mobile and from where i have to download the application. Instead of that if i am able to download application in my PC only and then transfer to my mobile then it will be fast and easy to organize the backup also.
Looking forward for ur solutions for these issues.

What about a Linux Version? Qt works perfectly on Mac and Linux, why is the beta limited to Mindows if it is made with Qt?
Nokia should invest more in PC suite, it is important to sync the phone with a computer. The previous PC suite was really horrible
And is there any plan to support sport tracker in PC Suite? The software on the phone rocks but I would love something to track my long term performance. An integration with sport tracker could be nice
.
Okay, guys this blog is now an official embarrassment. It’s July 19th and the last entry is on June 25th which is almost a month ago. Nokia is world’s largest manufacturer of mobile phones. Ovi is the main service brand for this market leader. And you don’t have anything to update us about on a more frequent base than once a month?!?
Please kill this blog with the failed OVI brand. Stop doing this kind of non-sense or start delivering on the brand promise okay? This kind of failed and abandoned blogs should just go away. They make Nokia’s mantra of turning into an “Internet Company” a public joke…
Best Regards,
Jonathan
RE: http://www.ovi.com
Could someone kindly update the front page of http://www.ovi.com with high resolution images? Not sure if you care at all, but SYNC and STORE images are very low res and look like you guys don’t know even the basics of web design. Of course the N-Gage RSS feed is “not available” (read: broken) so it does look like you guys have either given up on the whole http://www.ovi.com site or really don’t know what you’re doing?
Please this isn’t hard. Can you start caring now?
Kindly,
Jonathan
I realize you’re bound to moderate away all (unfortunately well deserved) criticism for Ovi.com, but just in case here’s another one.
Would you, could you, please kindly try and spell out what ovi is all about? You’re life. Connected. is a fancy way us making a statement that you don’t really know. Please, please, tell us what Ovi is?!? This is starting to feel like the Matrix and “Unfortunately No One Can Be Told What Ovi Is” joke is getting lame by now.
Is OVI a portal for Nokia’s services? Is it a brand for Nokia’s services? Is it a collection of Nokia and 3rd party services and applications? What the heck is it, really? Kindly spell this out for us in capital letters and include a short 2 sentence summary to ovi.com!
Fact of the matter is that no-one seems to know or be able to tell this with anything other than Dilbert bul**hit lingo (i.e. Ovi is a connected experience, etc.) which doesn’t really mean anything to anyone.
And really, if you guys at Nokia don’t know how to tell this in a way that we can understand then please, please kill the brand soon!
Yours,
Mr. Nightingale
Mac User here voicing my support to develop a mac OVI Suite app. I know that an Firmware update is coming for the E63, so please get the QT programming to get the Mac version out
Jonathan, thanks for your honesty and constructive criticism. In the last couple of weeks we published a number of posts on Nokia Music, the Files service being free of charge, and some new apps in Ovi Store. I hope you’ll give us another look and that we meet your expectations for more frequent posts.
Best, Karyl
OVI Store is not available in my country (Iran). Nokia has a HQ in Tehran and millions of users in this country, but we are not counted as Nokia users by OVI team!
Hi Ovi,
first, I generally think it’s a good idea that you are consolidating what was a fragmented mess.
Secondly, I hope you manage to consolidate further. Generally, I agree with what another poster said: things are in terrible disarray (and I say this as an increasingly irritated shareholder, too). There are some very simple fixes to big problems in Nokia software, And there should be a way of communicating this to the company.
Let me give you the supposed example: you have a GPS in your phone, but no way of sending a distress signal to another phone about your position, not even if GPS is on. The software defies logic, and we need better stuff for it, much better software (and actually less of this silly teenage stuff that you are currently generating). But this is just one out of many issues.
I have seen some companies recently embrace their customers. I hope you finally do the same. I really like 90% of your product, but the last 10% totally sucks.

2 major problems with beta 2.0
Not possible to change which folder in outlook conacts will be synced with phone.
Not possible to install application to phone from ovi suite. Application installer removed.
hope they are fixed in future version.
The Suite is a great idea. The latest release fixes quite a few problems, i.e. it is now possible to install .sis files.
The problem is that it simply crashes out on my Windows 7 setup so is unusable. This doesn’t make too much sense since Nokia is going to be using Windows 7 for it’s Booklet, so hopefully things get sorted soon.
I’m left wishing though, as I am with all recent Nokia products I’ve purchased, that things weren’t so obviously alpha rather than beta. Simply too many critical bugs in Nokia products these days.
i down loaded this ovi beta 2.0 and it was workinf really well until last week were the calender does not sync can u help???
Hello all i really want help regards to the ovi 2.0…ive got the nokia 5530 and syncing the contacts, pictures and music is fine but the bloody calander does not wk with outlook!!!!!pls pls pls help
please people at nokia, follow a course in interface building. That it is white with flashy colors en text balloons is great, but we would rather see something that is flexible, doesn’t take half of your screen and was just made, just to get you to the ovi store.
(ps: or else make copy apple.)
All well and good writing Ovi version 2 but if they do not soon update there support for new Nokia phones there will be nobody able to use OVi. I have been in this posuition for over a month since buying an e52 and there is no sign of light on the horizon, when i have asked about support for an e52 they no nothing, ovi is not forward thinking and dynamic as it would have us belive it is SLOW and there fore DOOMED TO FAIL.
Russell.
OVI 2.0 will not sync my outlook contacts to my N97. Can you please help.
ovi suite runs ok on my computer. but when i try to sync from my device through the ovi website online, the e52 doesn’t appear as one fo the options for devices to add. is there some other way that the e52 is supposed to sync online via the device or is ovi just not updated?
Hola a todos. Espero me puedan auxiliar.
