Mona Lisa on Ovi (and on sitting for Da Vinci for a very long time)

This week our Ovi fan girls Virginia Woolf, Marie Antoinette and Sacagawea will be accompanied by another famous historical female who needs no introductions: Lisa del Giocondo, also known as Mona Lisa.

Fun fact about Lisa: the painting made by Leonardo de Vinci of her has been used in more than 300 other paintings and 2000+ advertisements so far! (source) Yikes! The commercials have mostly focused on the aspect of ‘restoring’ or ‘ageing well’, so Mona Lisa has unfortunately had to promote everything from wrinkle creams to shampoo to pizza (ew?). Well, we’re still adding our own variant to the list, but hey, at least we’re acknowledging Lisa as a real person (a person who really likes Ovi, that is)! ;) So, behold the 2457th ad using Mona Lisa!

Im a little bit curious about this as the same feeling when I visited Monalisa in Louvre Museum last year. I was really surprised that she has the most visitors than other paintings inside the gallery considering its size. Believe me, there are other stunning paintings that are also worth seeing. Anyway, Monalisa’s iconic smile will always inspire more people, the same way OVI is doing. All the best.

Hi, reymos! It’s true: Mona Lisa is definitely overexposed, especially in Western media. You know, I actually toyed around with a Tweet combining Botticelli’s ‘Venus’ and Maps, but it didn’t quite come together, heh :) Mona Lisa’ popularity seems to be very self-accumulating; everyone wants to see it since it’s become so amazingly popular. The magic has to be in that mysterious smile!! However, Mona Lisa has managed to develop quite a strong brand of herself, which is exactly what we here at Ovi by Nokia aim to achieve as well ;) So thanks for your comment & please come back again!!

    Hi Niini!

I agree. Mona Lissa has been in the advertisements a lot. Also, she usually appears in different movies, cartoon scene and even fun jokes. But until now, I cannot understand really about the so-called “smile”.. she seems not smiling to me. But she’s really pretty.

It’s my first time on your page, and I have been reading some of the Historical OVI Tweet articles here!

Like Reymos, I belong to PEBA also (Pinoy Expats/OFW Blog Awards), an organization that promotes Filipino bloggers around the world. I wish you could drop by in my page and see what can you say about my contribution for the historical tweet.. mine is the “Pieta”.
